MPD Arrests 12-Year-Old in Rosedale Street Homicide

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department announced Wednesday that a 12-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the July killing of 13-year-old Ahmad Mims on Rosedale Street NE.

Members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested the juvenile on Aug. 19 under a D.C. Superior Court pre-petition custody order, according to an official MPD release. Police said the boy, whose name was not released because of his age, was charged with voluntary manslaughter while armed.

The arrest is an update to a homicide investigation that began July 11. Fifth District officers responded at about 8:24 p.m. that day to the 1600 block of Rosedale Street NE after a report of a man down.

Officers found Mims on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and EMS personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

Detectives determined that the shooting occurred inside a home in the same block, police said.

The charge is an allegation, and the juvenile is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
