WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a 2-month-old girl in Southeast Washington.
Officers responded at about 9:47 p.m. on August 16 to an apartment in the 800 block of New Jersey Avenue SE after receiving a report of an unconscious infant. They found Khamyah Honesty suffering from blunt-force injuries. D.C. Fire and EMS took her to a hospital, where she later died.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined on August 18 that the cause of death was blunt-force trauma and ruled the death a homicide.
Members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Demetrius Beatty on September 16 under a D.C. Superior Court warrant. He was charged with first-degree felony murder and first-degree cruelty to children. The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Detectives said the case had domestic overtones. The Special Victims Unit of the homicide branch continues to investigate the death in coordination with the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
