MPD Arrests Virginia Man in U Street Gun Threat Case

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department announced the arrest of a Virginia man accused of threatening a person with a handgun near 12th and U streets NW.

Police said the incident occurred at approximately 2:02 a.m. Sunday, August 23. According to MPD, a suspect approached the victim, displayed a handgun, pointed it at the victim and made threats before leaving the area.

Members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 38-year-old Waqas Zulfiqar of Woodbridge, Virginia, on Tuesday, September 15, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, MPD said.

Zulfiqar was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon involving a gun. The charge is an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
