WASHINGTON, D.C. — Mayor Muriel Bowser is asking the D.C. Council to approve a package of legislation covering housing, health care, waterfront development and improvements to Nationals Park.
The administration said Friday that the package would support more than 1,200 new homes, including more than 700 affordable units, while advancing projects in several wards.
One proposal would redevelop the Frank D. Reeves Center in the U Street corridor as the new national headquarters of the NAACP, a 150-room hotel, retail and arts space, an outdoor plaza and 322 homes, including 97 affordable units.
Other measures would advance 177 homes and a modernized community center and library in Chevy Chase; 800 homes and a freestanding emergency department at the former Fletcher Johnson school site; and additional mixed-use redevelopment at St. Elizabeths East.
The package also seeks approval for agreements involving a Georgetown boathouse and Poplar Point. The administration said the Poplar Point agreement could support a mixed-use development anchored by Therme DC while preserving more than 70 acres for waterfront park space.
A separate proposal would authorize continued investment in Nationals Park, where planned work includes infrastructure upgrades and updated suites and concessions. The stadium’s lease runs through 2059.
The proposals require D.C. Council approval before they can move forward.
