MPD Arrests Suspect in Irving Street Homicide

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department announced an arrest in the fatal shooting of a 55-year-old man on Irving Street in Northeast Washington.

Police said Fifth District officers responded to the 1800 block of Irving Street NE at approximately 5:54 a.m. on July 4 after receiving a report of an unconscious person. Officers found a man who was not breathing, and D.C. Fire and EMS personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities identified the victim as Adeyinka Aderemi of Northeast Washington.

On July 21, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 53-year-old George Shaw of Northeast Washington pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court warrant, according to MPD. Shaw was charged with first-degree murder while armed (premeditated). A criminal charge is an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
