WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department has established a Youth Curfew Zone around Banneker Recreation Center and the U Street corridor through Labor Day evening.
The zone took effect at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, and is scheduled to remain in effect through 11 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7, according to an MPD release issued Thursday.
MPD said people younger than 18 may not gather in groups of nine or more in public places or on the premises of an establishment within the designated area unless they are taking part in an exempted activity.
The zone is bounded on the north by Euclid Street NW from Georgia Avenue to 11th Street. Its eastern boundary follows Georgia Avenue and 7th Street from Euclid Street to T Street, while the western boundary follows 11th Street to V Street and then extends to 15th Street. T Street between 7th and 15th streets forms the southern boundary.
The department said the police chief may designate such a zone under the Juvenile Curfew Act of 1995, as amended by the Youth Curfew Act of 2026, when the presence of groups of at least nine unaccompanied minors is likely to endanger public safety.
MPD also reminded residents that the District’s separate citywide curfew for people under 18 runs from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
