WASHINGTON, D.C. — Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested three people after a stolen-vehicle call led detectives to a suspect in a series of residential burglaries across the District, according to an MPD release.
Police said six homes were burglarized between May 30 and July 6. Two residences were occupied during the incidents, and credit cards taken in two burglaries were later used in unauthorized transactions.
The cases occurred in Northeast, Southeast and Northwest Washington, including locations on Channing Street NE, 3rd Street NE, Half Street SE, M Street NE and Laurel Street NW.
MPD said Fifth District officers responded to the 1200 block of 1st Street NE at about 5:22 p.m. July 7 for a report of a stolen vehicle. Officers found three suspects inside a stolen Tesla and arrested them. Detectives familiar with the burglary investigations recognized one suspect as being connected to the earlier offenses, police said.
A 17-year-old from Northeast Washington was charged with two counts of first-degree burglary, four counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree fraud, unauthorized use of a vehicle and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. MPD said 21-year-old Dylawn T. Calhoun of Southeast Washington and another 17-year-old from Northeast were charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle; the second juvenile was also charged with second-degree burglary.
The cases remain under investigation. MPD asks anyone with information to call 202-727-9099 or text 50411.
