WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Congress Heights Day Parade is bringing parking restrictions and street closures to several Southeast Washington corridors through 4 p.m. Saturday, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Emergency no-parking restrictions are in effect from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on 4th Street between Mississippi Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue; Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue between 4th and Raleigh streets; Alabama Avenue between Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and 13th Street; and Oak Drive between Cherry Street and Alabama Avenue, all in Southeast.
Those same stretches are scheduled to be closed to vehicle traffic from approximately 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
MPD also announced local-access-only closures during that period on portions of 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th streets; Wheeler Road; 9th, 10th and 11th places; 12th Street; Heights Alley; Sycamore Drive; Randle Place; Trenton Street; and Savannah Street. The restrictions generally cover approaches between Savannah Street, Malcolm X Avenue and Alabama Avenue.
Police said closure times may change based on conditions. Drivers should follow posted emergency no-parking signs, expect delays and use caution because of increased pedestrian traffic. Vehicles parked in violation of the temporary restrictions may be ticketed and towed.
