WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 56-year-old pedestrian has died from injuries suffered in a crash on Georgia Avenue NW, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Fourth District officers responded to the 7700 block of Georgia Avenue at about 4:08 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3. Officers found the man with life-threatening injuries, and he was taken to a hospital. MPD said he died five days later, on Sept. 8, and identified him as Bernard Massey of Silver Spring, Maryland.
According to MPD’s preliminary investigation, Massey was on the east sidewalk before running into the roadway midblock and outside a crosswalk. Police said he passed between a school bus and sedan stopped in northbound traffic, then entered a southbound lane and was struck by a 2025 Tesla Model Y.
The driver called 911, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, MPD said. Investigators reported observing no signs of impairment from the driver. The case remains under investigation by the department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.
