WASHINGTON, D.C. — Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Council of the District of Columbia are holding a memorial ceremony Friday to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and honor those whose lives were lost or changed.
The ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at DC Fire and EMS Engine 16, 1018 13th Street NW. District officials said the event will remember D.C. residents, DC Public Schools teachers and students, and National Geographic Society members killed in the attacks.
City leaders will also pay tribute to first responders who served on September 11 and in the years since. Members of the D.C. Council are expected to present a resolution commemorating the anniversary and recognize the continuing role of first responders in protecting residents and visitors.
Bowser is scheduled to appear with members of the Council, former Mayor Anthony Williams, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice Lindsey Appiah, Fire and EMS Chief John A. Donnelly Sr., and Interim DC Public Schools Chancellor Kim Jackson.
The District said the ceremony will be carried live at mayor.dc.gov/live and on DCN Channel 16. The closest Metro station is McPherson Square.
