DC Pools Shift to Six-Day Summer Schedule as Spray Parks Go Daily

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Full-service outdoor pools across the District shift to a six-day summer schedule starting Monday, June 22, while DC spray parks begin daily operations from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to the mayor’s office and the DC Department of Parks and Recreation.

The change follows DPR’s Memorial Day weekend opening of 17 outdoor pools and 35 spray parks across all eight wards. City officials said outdoor pools and spray parks operated on weekends through June 21 before the expanded summer schedule began.

Spray parks will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., except at facilities that require reduced hours for recirculating water system maintenance. DPR said residents can check dpr.dc.gov/outdoorpools and dpr.dc.gov/sprayparks for site details.

The announcement came as Washington, D.C. was named the nation’s number one big-city park system by the Trust for Public Land for the sixth consecutive year. The mayor’s office said the District scored strongly across ParkScore Index factors, including park access and park equity.

According to the release, more than 21 percent of District land is reserved for parks, one of the highest shares in the country. DPR Director Thennie Freeman said the recognition reflects investments in pools, parks, playgrounds and recreation spaces in every neighborhood.

DPR will also maintain a real-time webpage with emergency closure and capacity updates. When a pool reaches capacity, the department said a one-in, one-out policy will be used.
