WASHINGTON, D.C. — The District Department of Transportation is inviting residents to a community meeting on Wednesday, July 8, to review the ANC 8B Safety and Mobility Study.
The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room at the MPD 7th District Police Station at 2455 Alabama Avenue SE. DDOT said staff will provide an overview of the study, which is the second project in the agency’s Neighborhood Safety and Mobility Studies program.
According to DDOT, the study will evaluate neighborhood-scale transportation needs and identify recommendations that can be implemented quickly to improve safety, connectivity, and accessibility. The agency said it will use community feedback, crash history, and the risk of future crashes to identify intersections and roadway segments in ANC 8B most in need of safety improvements.
Safety treatments will be designed and implemented at selected locations, with DDOT describing the work as a way to respond to immediate needs while testing solutions for future, larger construction projects. The release says those treatments will rely on tactical materials such as pavement markings and limited concrete work.
DDOT said the NSAMS program evolved from its Livability Program, which ran from 2011 to 2020 and often involved larger study areas and corridor reconfigurations that could take years to realize. Meeting materials are expected to be posted on the study website within 72 hours after the community meeting.
