U.S.-Iran Tensions Hit 100-Day Mark as Trump Declares Tehran’s Military ‘Decapitated’

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The conflict between the United States and Iran entered its 100th day Sunday as President Donald Trump declared in an NBC News interview that Iran’s military had been reduced to a fraction of its former strength. “Iran is desperate,” Trump said. “Their military is virtually decapitated.”

The administration has maintained that the U.S. would seize and destroy Iran’s highly enriched uranium, with or without Tehran’s cooperation, as negotiations between the two nations remain stalled.

Israeli airstrikes continued to target positions in Beirut, Lebanon, as the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire showed fresh signs of strain. The strikes hit a building in the capital that Israel claimed housed a Hamas operational command post, according to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces.

The 100-day milestone marks one of the longest sustained U.S. military engagements in the Middle East since the post-9/11 era, drawing bipartisan scrutiny in Washington over the scope and duration of operations.

The State Department has maintained that American forces remain positioned to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, a red line the administration has repeatedly emphasized since the escalation began in early March.
