WASHINGTON, D.C. — Federal officials this week announced a new initiative aimed at expanding national green building standards to promote energy efficiency and sustainable construction practices.
The program will focus on updating building codes, supporting energy-efficient retrofits, and encouraging the use of sustainable materials in both public and private sector projects. Officials say the effort is designed to reduce energy consumption and lower long-term operational costs.
According to agency leaders, funding will be allocated for research, incentives, and partnerships with developers and local governments to accelerate adoption of green building practices. The initiative will also promote workforce training in sustainable construction techniques.
Experts noted that improving building efficiency can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions while enhancing occupant comfort and resilience. The program is expected to contribute to broader environmental and economic goals.
The first phase of implementation is scheduled to begin later this year, with additional expansions planned as adoption increases and new technologies emerge.
