WASHINGTON, D.C. — Four outdoor pools across the District will welcome dogs for a free end-of-season swim on Saturday, Sept. 12, the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation and D.C. Health announced.
Doggie Day Swim DC is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. at Francis Pool, 2435 N Street NW; Langdon Park Pool, 2860 Mills Avenue NE; Ridge Road Pool, 830 Ridge Road SE; and Upshur Pool, 4300 Arkansas Avenue NW.
The annual event gives properly licensed dogs of all sizes an opportunity to use the pools before the outdoor swimming season ends. Admission is free, but advance registration is required for both dogs and their handlers.
District officials said every participating dog must arrive with a valid, original dog license and tag issued by D.C. Health. Owners who still need a license should complete that process before the event and must provide proof of current rabies and distemper vaccinations as well as proof that the dog has been spayed or neutered. Payments will not be accepted at the pool sites.
Handlers must be at least 16 years old. Dogs must remain leashed while on the pool deck, be sociable around other animals and people, and be current on required vaccinations. While dogs can enter the water, handlers are not permitted in the pools.

The event is organized by the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation in partnership with D.C. Health.
