WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department announced that a 19-year-old Maryland man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery on 40th Street Northwest.
Police said two suspects approached a person walking in the 4500 block of 40th Street NW at about 3:38 p.m. on Jan. 1. One suspect allegedly displayed a handgun before taking the victim’s property and fleeing.
MPD identified the arrested man as Dawit Ghebreyesus. According to the department, he was transferred from the Montgomery County Jail to the D.C. Jail on Aug. 20 under a D.C. Superior Court bench warrant and charged with armed robbery involving a handgun.
The charge is an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
