DDOT Expands Online Business Accounts to Speed Public-Space Permitting

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The District Department of Transportation has expanded a business-account feature in its Transportation Online Permitting System, allowing professionals to connect their existing TOPS profiles to company accounts and manage public-space permits without creating separate logins.

DDOT said the feature, first introduced in May and now available to all eligible business account holders, is intended for professionals who regularly apply for permits on behalf of their organizations. Access requests can be submitted through a user’s profile settings and must be approved by the company’s authorized business account administrator.

Once linked, eligible users may receive permit deposit waivers, faster permit reviews, coordinated permitting under a single company account and centralized oversight by an account administrator. DDOT said users who link within 60 days will be immediately eligible for available business-account benefits; later requests may face a delay before benefits activate.

To use the feature, an existing TOPS user must sign in, open Profile Settings and request access to the appropriate company account. The company administrator then reviews the request, and approved users retain their existing login credentials.

The agency described the update as part of a broader effort to modernize digital services and reduce administrative burdens for businesses working in District public space. Registration instructions and an instructional video are available through TOPS, while users who do not know their account administrator can contact the TOPS Support Team.
