WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a 23-year-old Southeast Washington man in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman on Congress Street SE.
Police said Seventh District officers responded to the 1300 block of Congress Street SE at about 6:29 a.m. on May 12 after receiving a report of an unconscious person. Officers found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
MPD identified the victim as 30-year-old Jasmine Malone, who had no fixed address.
Members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Malachi Rawlings on Friday, July 31, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court warrant, police said. Rawlings was charged with second-degree murder while armed. A criminal charge is an allegation, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
