MPD Investigates Fatal Shooting on New York Avenue NW

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting on New York Avenue NW that left an 18-year-old man dead.

Third District officers responded to a report of gunshots in the unit block of New York Avenue NW at approximately 10:38 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, according to MPD. Officers found an adult man suffering from gunshot wounds.

DC Fire and EMS personnel responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene after finding no signs consistent with life. Police identified him as Darron Venable, 18, of Southeast Washington.

MPD said the investigation remains active. The department is asking anyone with information not to take action, but to call police at 202-727-9099 or text a tip to 50411. Police said a reward of up to $25,000 is available for information leading to an arrest and conviction in a District homicide.
