WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a Southeast Washington man in connection with an assault last month on Birney Place, according to an official department release.
Police said the assault happened at approximately 12:03 p.m. on June 2 in the 2600 block of Birney Place SE. Investigators said a suspect approached the victim and struck the person with an unknown object before leaving the scene.
DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to MPD.
Members of the department’s Criminal Apprehension Unit located and arrested 49-year-old Donte Maurice Butler of Southeast Washington on July 15 under a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, police said. He was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.
The case is listed under CCN 26075226. A criminal charge is an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
