MPD Investigates Fatal Shooting of 13-Year-Old on Rosedale Street

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old boy in Northeast Washington, according to an official department release.

Fifth District officers responded to the 1600 block of Rosedale Street, Northeast, at approximately 8:24 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, after receiving a report of a man down. Officers found a juvenile male on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound.

D.C. Fire and EMS personnel responded and pronounced the victim dead after finding no signs consistent with life, police said. MPD identified the victim as Ahmad Mims, 13, of Northeast Washington.

Detectives determined that the shooting occurred inside a home in the 1600 block of Rosedale Street, Northeast. The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information was asked not to take action but to call police at 202-727-9099 or text a tip to 50411. MPD is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in a District homicide.
