MPD Investigates Fatal Shooting on Pennsylvania Avenue, SE

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Homicide Branch is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Monday morning in the 2500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast.

Officers from the Sixth District responded to the scene at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026, following a report of an unresponsive person down. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from multiple apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was treated at the scene and transported by D.C. Fire and EMS to an area hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased after lifesaving efforts failed.

The deceased victim has since been identified by authorities as 19-year-old Turray Simms of Northeast, D.C. Homicide detectives are actively working to establish a motive, gather evidence, and identify suspects in the shooting. No arrests have been made at this time.

The Metropolitan Police Department offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for homicides committed in the District. Anyone with information regarding the shooting is urged to contact the police at (202) 727-9099 or submit an anonymous text tip to the department’s text line at 50411.
