MPD Updates Traffic Advisory for Capital Barbecue Battle Weekend

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department has issued an updated traffic advisory for the 2026 Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle, scheduled from Friday, June 26, through Monday, June 29, in the District of Columbia.

In conjunction with the event, MPD said motorists should plan for parking restrictions and street closures. Police said drivers may encounter delays and may wish to consider alternate routes, while MPD and the D.C. Department of Transportation reminded motorists to use caution because increased pedestrian traffic can be anticipated.

From Friday, June 26 at 10:30 a.m. through Monday, June 29 at 2:00 a.m., emergency no-parking and vehicle closures are scheduled for Pennsylvania Avenue from 7th Street to Constitution Avenue NW (West Crossover), and 6th Street from C Street to Constitution Avenue NW.

From Friday, June 26 at 6:30 p.m. through Monday, June 29 at 2:00 a.m., additional emergency no-parking and vehicle closures are scheduled for 3rd Street from Constitution Avenue NW to Independence Avenue SW; Maryland Avenue from 3rd Street to Independence Avenue SW; 4th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Madison Drive NW; Constitution Avenue from 3rd Street to 9th Street NW; Pennsylvania Avenue from 3rd Street to 9th Street NW; and 7th Street from D Street to Constitution Avenue NW.

MPD said that on Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28, Pennsylvania Avenue from 7th Street to 9th Street NW and 7th Street from D Street to Constitution Avenue NW may close intermittently for public safety.

Police said vehicles violating emergency no-parking signs will be ticketed and towed. MPD also said all closure times and locations are subject to change based on conditions, and directed the public to x.com/DCPoliceTraffic for timely traffic information.
