WASHINGTON, D.C. — Four juveniles from Southeast Washington have been arrested in connection with a series of residential break-ins and vehicle thefts across the District’s Northeast quadrant, police announced.
According to authorities, detectives linked eight residential burglaries occurring between September 5 and October 2. Four of the incidents involved unoccupied homes, while the four burglaries at occupied residences involved suspects armed with a firearm. Property was reported stolen in all eight incidents, including vehicle keys that led to four automobiles being taken; all four vehicles have since been recovered by police.
The offenses occurred across multiple Northeast neighborhoods, including the 300 block of 17th Place NE, the 1400 block of Ames Place NE, the 1700 block of C Street NE, the 300 block of 18th Place NE, the 1900 block of D Street NE, the 1000 block of Sigsbee Place NE, and the 300 block of 18th Street NE.
Police reported that during one occupied-home burglary on Sigsbee Place NE on October 2, an armed suspect attempted an unwanted sexual act with a resident. Detectives arrested four male juveniles—three 14-year-olds and one 13-year-old—on October 5.
Charges vary among the individuals and include second-degree burglary, first-degree burglary while armed, theft of a motor vehicle, unlawful entry, and threats to do bodily harm. One 14-year-old was additionally charged with assault with intent to commit first-degree sexual abuse.
