WASHINGTON, D.C. — District government offices and several public services will operate on modified schedules Monday, Sept. 7, as the city observes Labor Day, according to an official notice from Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office.
Household trash, recycling and food-waste collection will not take place Monday. Homes normally served that day will receive collection Tuesday, Sept. 8. Bulk trash and recycling services will also resume Tuesday.
Parking enforcement will be suspended for the holiday and will resume Tuesday. The District Department of Transportation will pause nonemergency construction and work zones in streets, alleys and sidewalks, including manhole access and construction-related deliveries. Reversible-lane operations will also be suspended on 16th Street NW, Canal Road and Rock Creek Parkway.
DC Public Schools and DC Public Library locations will be closed Monday and reopen Tuesday. Department of Parks and Recreation recreation centers, community centers, indoor aquatic centers and offices will also close for the holiday. Outdoor parks, playgrounds, athletic courts and fields will remain open.
Select outdoor pools and spray parks are scheduled to operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The open pools listed by the District are Banneker, Volta Park, Francis, Hearst, Upshur, Langdon, Rosedale, Ridge Road and Oxon Run.
All Department of Motor Vehicles locations will be closed Saturday, Sept. 5, and Monday, Sept. 7. Online DMV services will remain available. Several DC Health offices, Department of Human Services service centers, American Job Centers and the Department of Employment Services Navigation Call Center will also close Monday.
Essential crisis and shelter services will continue. Low-barrier shelters will remain open, and residents seeking transportation to homeless services can call the DC Shelter Hotline at 202-399-7093 or 311. The Downtown Day Services Center at 1313 New York Avenue NW will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Behavioral-health crisis support remains available around the clock by calling or texting 988.
