WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department has designated two youth curfew zones in Northwest Washington for the weekend, covering parts of Brightwood/Emery Heights and the area around Banneker Recreation Center and U Street.

The zones are in effect from 8 p.m. through 12:01 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, through Sunday, Aug. 23. MPD said people younger than 18 may not gather in groups of nine or more in public places or at establishments within the designated areas unless they are participating in exempted activities.

The Brightwood/Emery Heights zone is bounded generally by Quackenbos Street, 8th Street, Longfellow Street and 13th Street NW. The Banneker Recreation Center/U Street zone runs within boundaries that include Euclid Street, Georgia Avenue and 7th Street, 11th Street, V Street, 15th Street and T Street NW.

MPD said the zones were designated under the Juvenile Curfew Act of 1995 as amended by the Youth Curfew Act of 2026. The department also reminded residents that the separate citywide curfew for all youth under 18 begins nightly at 12:01 a.m. and continues until 6 a.m.
