MPD Arrests Suspect After Armed Robbery at Columbia Road Pharmacy

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 25-year-old man was arrested after an armed robbery at a Northwest Washington pharmacy, a vehicle crash and a brief foot pursuit, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

MPD said officers responded at about 6:22 p.m. Friday to a pharmacy in the 1800 block of Columbia Road NW. Police said a masked man demanded prescription medication, jumped over the counter and made additional demands while displaying a firearm before leaving in a vehicle with stolen drugs.

Responding officers located the suspect after his vehicle crashed in the 1500 block of North Capitol Street NW, according to MPD. Police said he fled on foot before officers arrested him. A firearm and prescription drugs were recovered at the scene, and MPD reported that no bystanders were injured and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

MPD identified the arrested man as Jamari Brighthaupt of Southeast Washington. Police said he faces charges including robbery while armed, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, carrying a pistol without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm and ammunition, felon in possession of a firearm, leaving after a property-damage collision and resisting arrest.

The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
