WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal crash in Northeast Washington in which a vehicle left the roadway, entered a park and struck a pedestrian.
Fifth District officers responded at approximately 12:45 a.m. Monday, July 27, to the intersection of Bladensburg Road and South Dakota Avenue NE after receiving a report of a crash involving a pedestrian. Officers found an adult woman with serious injuries in the adjacent park, according to MPD. D.C. Fire and EMS pronounced her dead at the scene.
MPD’s preliminary investigation found that an Audi Q7 traveling southbound on South Dakota Avenue entered a park area between Franklin Street and Bladensburg Road and struck the woman. Police said the driver left the scene on foot before officers arrived.
The victim was identified as 45-year-old Shana Battle of Laurel, Maryland.
