WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Rosedale Recreation Center’s outdoor pool has reopened in Ward 7 after a $6.8 million renovation that expanded the facility and added a new splash pad, District officials announced Thursday.
The project increased the pool’s footprint by more than 1,400 square feet and added six swimming lanes. The larger facility is designed to support swim lessons, senior aquatics, competitive meets and other community programs.
Upgrades also include new water-quality and sanitation systems, lifeguard stations, shade structures, and energy and sustainability features. Nearly $2 million of the project’s investment went to local businesses, according to the Department of General Services.
Mayor Muriel Bowser said District outdoor pools have welcomed more than 236,000 visitors this summer. She described pools and spray parks as both recreation sites and places where residents can stay cool during hot weather.
The Rosedale pool originally opened in 1934 and was rebuilt in 2012. The recreation center also offers year-round youth, athletics, arts and enrichment programming.
District officials said the reopening is part of broader recreation investment in Ward 7. The city has invested more than $600 million in recreation center projects across Washington since 2015.
