WASHINGTON, D.C. — Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested a Maryland man after a robbery and attempted knife assault on U Street NW, according to an official department release.
MPD said Third District officers were flagged down by an adult male victim in the 1000 block of U Street NW at approximately 5:02 p.m. Friday, July 17. Investigators said a suspect took the victim’s cellphone, leading to a struggle over the device.
After the victim recovered the phone, the suspect allegedly brandished a knife and tried to assault him, police said. The victim avoided the attack and was not injured.
Officers located the suspect at the scene and took him into custody without incident. MPD identified him as 27-year-old Brian Keith McMullen Jr. of Bowie, Maryland. He was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, robbery and possession of a prohibited weapon. The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
