MPD Charges Man in Three Northwest Robbery and Theft Cases

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department announced that a 22-year-old Northwest Washington man has been arrested and charged in connection with three separate robbery and theft cases from February.

MPD said Alex Girma was arrested Friday, July 10, under a D.C. Superior Court warrant and charged with robbery. The principal case stems from an incident early Feb. 8 in the 1200 block of 18th Street NW, where police said a victim was forced into a vehicle, assaulted and robbed before being pushed out.

Police also charged Girma in two additional cases. In a Feb. 13 robbery in the 1200 block of 22nd Street NW, suspects allegedly approached a victim from behind, took property and pushed the victim when he tried to recover it. In a Feb. 21 theft in the 1200 block of 18th Street NW, police said suspects asked to use a victim’s phone and then fled with it.

The cases remain under investigation. MPD asks anyone with information to call 202-727-9099 or text the department’s tip line at 50411. Police said a reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest and indictment in a District crime.
