MPD Announces July 9 Street Closures for First Amendment Event

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department says drivers should expect parking restrictions and street closures around Pennsylvania Avenue NW on Thursday for a First Amendment event in the District.

According to MPD, Pennsylvania Avenue from 3rd Street to Constitution Avenue NW will be posted as emergency no parking and closed to vehicle traffic from 9 a.m. Thursday, July 9, through 1 a.m. Friday, July 10.

Additional emergency no-parking restrictions will be in effect from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday on Pennsylvania Avenue from 3rd Street to 7th Street NW, Constitution Avenue from 3rd Street to 7th Street NW, and 6th Street from C Street to Constitution Avenue NW.

MPD said those same blocks will be closed to vehicle traffic from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday. Officials said all closure times are subject to change based on conditions, and vehicles parked in violation of emergency no-parking signs may be ticketed and towed.

The department advised motorists to expect delays near the event area, consider alternate routes, and use caution because increased pedestrian traffic is anticipated. MPD directed drivers to follow updates from DC Police Traffic for timely traffic information.
