WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Homicide Branch is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on the morning of Saturday, July 4, 2026, in the 1800 block of Irving Street, Southeast.
Officers responded to the residential block at approximately 5:54 a.m. following a public report of an unconscious individual. Upon arrival, emergency responders located an adult male victim who was unresponsive and not breathing. D.C. Fire and EMS personnel evaluated the victim and pronounced him deceased at the scene after finding no signs consistent with life.
The victim has since been identified by authorities as 55-year-old Adeyinka Aderemi. Homicide detectives are actively working to establish a motive and identify potential suspects. No arrests have been announced in connection with the shooting.
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for homicides committed in the District.
