WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department announced an arrest in a fatal shooting in Northeast D.C. that left one man dead and two others injured.
Police said Fifth District officers responded around 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024, to the 1700 block of North Capitol Street NE for a report of a shooting.
According to MPD, officers found two men with gunshot wounds, one inside a business and one outside. D.C. Fire and EMS transported both men to a hospital.
One of the men died despite lifesaving efforts, police said. The second man was treated for critical injuries, and a third man later arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound and was also treated for critical injuries.
The man who died was identified as 26-year-old Malon Nurse of Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
On Friday, June 26, 2026, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court indictment, 23-year-old Charlie Laster of Capitol Heights, Maryland, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder while Armed. MPD thanked the United States Marshals Service for its partnership and assistance in the investigation. The case number is CCN 24023603.
