WASHINGTON, D.C. — Metropolitan Police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a June shooting inside a Benning Road apartment complex that injured a 2-year-old boy.
Fifth District officers responded to the 1700 block of Benning Road NE at about 9:50 p.m. on June 9 after a report of gunfire, according to an official MPD release. Police said a person fired a gun inside the complex and left before officers arrived.
Officers found the child inside an apartment with a graze wound. D.C. Fire and EMS took the boy to a hospital for treatment of injuries that police described as non-life-threatening.
Members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Casanova Lamons of Northeast Washington on Sept. 1 under a D.C. Superior Court warrant, MPD said. He was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon involving a gun.
The allegations are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. MPD identified the case as CCN 26079389. The department’s full account is available in the official release.
