WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting on Chesapeake Street SE that killed 32-year-old Michael Barnes.
Seventh District officers responded to the 800 block of Chesapeake Street SE at approximately 11:47 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, after receiving a report of a shooting, according to an official MPD release.
Officers found an adult man suffering from gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS responded, and Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene after responders found no signs consistent with life, police said.
MPD identified Barnes as a resident of Southeast Washington. The department’s release did not announce an arrest or provide information about a suspect.
Police asked anyone with information not to take action but to call 202-727-9099 or text a tip to 50411. MPD said it offers a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in a District homicide.
